SVITIAZ OLYMPIC TRIATHLON
Oleksandr Khadyko and Anna Botyukh – Winners of the Ukrainian Triathlon Championship in Volyn! The Kovel Triathlon Federation added another event to its achievements with the successful hosting of the national triathlon competition! Sold Out Event: The slots for the Volyn Triathlon were sold out in advance! Despite it being only the second edition of the Svitiaz Olympic Triathlon, individual participation in the Olympic distance saw a “sold out” status. Competition Highlights: 51 men and 9 women competed on the 1.5/40/10 km distance, joined by two relay teams, with the Varvar Team emerging victorious. The Tri Stikhi Team secured second place. Women’s Race: Tatiana Korol from the CapitalTri club dominated the swim, leading by almost two minutes. The favorite, based on our Telegram poll, extended her lead to four minutes after the bike leg. Anna Botyukh and Liliya Kmet reached the transition zone together. Last year’s winner trailed by 15 seconds in the transition, leaving the Lutsk representative to chase the leader. Anna Botyukh posted the fastest 10k run time, taking the lead and winning for Aerostar-Teamone in Volyn! The crystal-clear water, pine forests, and minimal elevation were perfect for setting and improving personal records, as advertised. Anna set a new course record of 2 hours 35 minutes and 10 seconds, improving Liliya Kmet’s previous year’s time by 4 minutes and 17 seconds. Liliya also surpassed Tatiana Korol, finishing second among women with a new personal best. Ex-leader Tatiana Korol had issues during the run and delayed more than an hour on the final leg. She finished third alongside Roman Korol. In our survey, Galyna Shchudlyak, who had strong community support, didn’t start the race but finished second in the poll. Anna Botyukh received 20% of the votes, while Kyiv resident Yevheniia Idoyatova from the Happy Tri Friends club garnered 7%, finishing ninth overall. Only one vote went to Liliya Kmet, the silver medalist and last year’s leader.
Men’s Race: Was there a man who swam faster than the others? Yes, Roman Korol! Competing as a professional athlete, he led by nearly two minutes as Oleksandr Khadyko, Anton Lytvynenko, Vitalii Volynets, and Bohdan Polovynko exited the water. A week ago, Roman represented Ukraine in the Para World Triathlon Cup in Taranto, Italy, as a guide for Anatolii Varfolomeiev, placing fifth and keeping Paralympic qualification hopes alive. Roman Korol was already 1 minute and 50 seconds into the bike leg when the chasing quartet, joined by Oleksandr Osypchuk, left the transition zone. They caught the leader, and six participants reached the second transition zone together. The nearest chasers were five minutes behind, but Yurii Klym had a fast running leg! Roman Korol dropped back, and Kyiv resident Oleksandr Khadyko surged ahead, claiming the overall victory for the Capital club. He finished confidently in 2 hours 6 minutes and 2 seconds, longer than last year’s winner Ihor Polivanyi’s time of 1 hour 57 minutes and 12 seconds. Vitalii Volynets from Ternopil was 1 minute and 53 seconds behind, with Kyiv resident Oleksandr Osypchuk from Aerostar-Teamone finishing half a minute later. Anton Lytvynenko and Bohdan Polovynko maintained their top-five positions, with Yurii Klym missing fifth place by only 39 seconds, recording the second fastest run time. In the men’s survey, more than a hundred votes were cast, with 35% backing Oleksandr Khadyko’s victory. Mykhailo Yanytskyi, with strong support, received 23% of the votes, successfully finishing for Podilski Vovky from Khmelnytskyi. Oleksandr Osypchuk garnered 17%, recovering from a water delay with a quick transition and strong bike leg. Other notable votes went to Yurii Klym, Anton Lytvynenko, Vitalii Volynets, and Bohdan Polovynko. Yaroslav Ozyumenko also gathered votes, finishing in the top ten with Oleksandr Lyatsevych, Kostiantyn Piddubnyi, and Volodymyr Kreposniak.
