TIPS FOR BEGINNERS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED FOR TRIATHLON?

Basically, five things are enough to participate in triathlon: swimming trunks or a bathing suit, a serviceable bicycle, a bicycle helmet, a pair of (running) shoes and a T-shirt. Everything else: nice to have.

WHAT LEVEL OF PHYSICAL TRAINING DO I NEED FOR TRIATHLON?

There is no general answer to this. Before you dare to try the Olympic, middle or long distance, you must first try the super sprint distance or sprint distance. But this requires a little preparation.
Swimming, in particular, is a problem for many who want to take part in triathlon for the first time. We recommend that you learn or improve your swimming technique – on your own but better with the help of a swimming coach. With the right technique, you not only swim safer, but also save energy. Cycling and running are first and foremost confident possession of a bicycle and determination of your pace and training.

WHAT SHOULD I PAY ATTENTION TO IN THE TRANSIT ZONE?

The transition from swimming to cycling or from cycling to running takes place in the transit zone. Before the start of the competition there is a registration time for the transit zone. You can usually find the registration time on the event’s website.
First of all, it is important that you know where your place is in the transit zone.
Put clothes, helmet and breastplate in the order in which you want to wear it.
You are not allowed to ride your bike in the transit zone but only on the markings at the end of the transit zone. Before removing the bicycle from the bicycle rack, the bicycle helmet must be on its head and fastened. After the cycling stage, you should get off the bike before marking and your helmet should remain buttoned until you put the bike back on the bike rack. The best way to push a bike is to hold it by the saddle.
Tip: practice passing the transit zones before the competition, so you will master the so-called fourth discipline, even with a strong pulse and great excitement.

HOW TO FIND A CLUB?

Have you just taken your first steps in triathlon or do you want to start triathlon soon? You do not want to do it alone, but rather swim, ride a bike and run in the company of like-minded people? Then the triathlon club is for you. Here you will be able to continue your new passion with others, train according to the training plans of experienced coaches and take one or two tips from experienced athletes.
We offer club searches on our website. If you already know some clubs, you can search for them directly to get more information about the clubs. Have you found a suitable club? Then contact them and ask when you can come and start training.
Train with pleasure!

WHAT SHOULD I TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WHEN BEGINING TRIATHLON TRAINING?

Basically, the following applies to all three disciplines of triathlon: avoid overstrain at all costs! The beginning of training is primarily entertainment, exercise, health and improvement.
Optimal training depends, in particular, on your individual requirements. Therefore, each training plan must be individually tailored to your needs, strengths and weaknesses. If you are unsure of your own results, be sure to consult a doctor before training to discuss your plans. Basically we have the following tips for you:

SWIMMING

You should start swimming as early as possible, at least six months before the first triathlon on your own or with the help of a swimming coach.

BIKE

As a beginner, you should first “just” ride a bike, because your increase in productivity on the bike is very dependent on the kilometers traveled. Rather, you need to focus on developing your endurance. If you can ride a bike to work, you are also doing something to prepare for triathlon. Only slowly increase the volume and intensity and do not overdo it!

RUN

One of the most common mistakes is that beginners increase the amount of training too quickly. In the beginning, frequent jogs with a short duration (10-20 minutes) are advisable. The initial pain in the muscles is quite limited and the risk of overload is low. Another effective method for beginners is to alternate running and walking, such as three minutes of running combined with one minute of walking. Once you feel fit, you can slowly increase the amount and intensity of training.
