Kam’yanske Cross-Duathlon: Grit, Glory, and the Spirit of Sport
On May 10, 2025, the city of Kam’yanske in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region hosted its annual cross-duathlon, a testament to the city’s enduring commitment to multisport competitions. Organized by the Kam’yanske Triathlon Federation, under the leadership of Yuriy Makohonov since 2019, the event has become a staple in the local sporting calendar.
Course and Conditions
Athletes faced a challenging course comprising a 3 km run, a 10 km bike ride, and a concluding 1.5 km run. Younger participants and those aged 40 and above competed on a slightly shorter “light” course: 1.5 km run, 6.96 km bike, and a 0.7 km run.
In the days leading up to the race, organizers and local athletes contended with relentless rain, which threatened to derail the event. The downpour rendered the trails nearly impassable, forcing the cancellation of a crucial pre-race training session. However, a fortuitous overnight wind helped dry the course, allowing the race to proceed with a two-hour delayed start. Despite the improved conditions, the inclement weather led to a reduced turnout, with only 24 determined athletes making it to the starting line.
