BLUE LAKES SPRINT TRIATHLON 2024
On July 6th, the Youth Organization of the Khmelnytska NPP, with the support of the plant’s administration, hosted the third annual Sprint Triathlon! Following the Sprint Triathlon Netishyn 2022 and the Blue Lakes Sprint Triathlon last year, the cross-country triathlon took place once again in the picturesque Blue Lakes region of the Khmelnytskyi oblast.
Among 52 men and 8 women, Dmytro Stetsiuk and Maiya Abramovych emerged as the winners. Team PAES clinched victory among the 13 relay teams, with two teams from Netishyn earning the runner-up spots.
Triathlon events organized by the Youth Organizations of Ukraine’s Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) are renowned for their style and execution, consistently drawing strong and cohesive teams that excel both in organization and competition. Representatives from these teams have also triumphed in the team standings. Based on the competition results, Khmelnytskyi NPP took first place, with South Ukrainian NPP and Rivne NPP sharing the podium.
In the individual standings, Kharkiv’s Dmytro Ivanov had nearly a minute lead in the swim over Artem Tyshchuk from Volodymyrets. Dmytro Stetsiuk, finishing third in the swim, was 1 minute and 20 seconds behind the leader. The Rivne native outperformed everyone in the cycling segment, heading into the cross-country run in first place. Artem Tyshchuk and Dmytro Ivanov entered the transition zone with a three-minute deficit. Dmytro Stetsiuk secured his second victory at these championships, with Artem Tyshchuk earning the silver medal in the cross-country triathlon. Dmytro Ivanov was overtaken by Rivne’s Mykola Zhynskyi, who made up a three-minute gap in the run to cross the finish line in third place.
In a Telegram poll, Dmytro Stetsiuk was the top favorite, receiving the majority of votes from the community before the challenging cross-country triathlon on one of the most technically demanding cycling courses. Dmytro Stetsiuk’s performance validated his favoritism as he demonstrated his skills and secured his second victory. Volodymyr Ryzak and Artem Tyshchuk garnered the next highest number of votes, while Dmytro Ivanov remains a favorite for next year’s competition.
Among the women, Olha Lysak and Tetyana Hromova received equal votes, with Maria Kharytonenko and Viktoriya Polozova sharing third place in the poll. The race, however, would determine the ultimate winner. Tetyana was among the leaders in the first stage, with Zhanna Badalis finishing the swim first, followed by Tetyana half a minute later, and Olha Lysak rounding out the top three.
The leadership among the women shifted completely after the cross-country cycling segment. Maiya Abramovych gained a minute’s advantage over Maria Kharytonenko, who was a podium contender according to the poll. Zhanna Badalis fell behind the two leaders, starting the cross-country run in third place. The top three women remained unchallenged and crossed the finish line in the same order. Maiya Abramovych from Netishyn took first place, with Maria Kharytonenko finishing nearly five minutes later, and Zhanna Badalis closing the gap by two minutes to secure third place.
In the 40-49 age group, Dmitro Ivanov (Kharkiv) and Oleksandra Zhebel (Netishyn) claimed victory. Ruslan Boyko (Khmelnytskyi) and Petro Kyslianka (Varash) were the male runners-up, while Viktoriya Polozova (Kyiv) earned a podium spot among the women.
